About Julia

The first thing you should know about me is that I'm something of a word nut--I love languages! I love learning about them, and I love helping other people to learn about them, too! I taught high school English and high school Spanish for five years, and I've taught in overseas ESL camps and online and in-person ESL classes in the U.S., so I've had a wide and varied experience. I don't take myself too seriously, and I don't want you to, either--language learning should be fun and interesting, not just rote memorization of rules. And if you make a mistake, that's fine--mistakes are proof that you're trying! Learning to give yourself grace is perhaps the most important language skill there is!

About the lesson

I specialize in teaching language skills to upper elementary-adult students. I believe that being proficient in a language means learning more than just grammar rules and/or vocabulary, but actually being able to confidently speak, read and write, and understand that language when it is spoken. Because of this, every lesson will involve practice in all four areas of language learning; I don't want you to simply memorize words and phrases--I want you to understand how to use them creatively yourself! My classes are for beginning to advanced English language learners, and I also specialize in teaching English writing skills.
