About Genevieve

I understand that the relationship between teacher and student is important, and I take great care to ensure that my students feel heard and secure in their time with me.

My students have their piano lessons on my antique Hamburg Steinway piano, in my home studio, in Mairehau, Christchurch.

* I am an associate of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers NZ
* 18 years of piano teaching experience
* I have taught hundreds of students during my time as an itinerant piano teacher at 5 top Christchurch schools including Christchurch Girls Highschool in Fendalton and Paparoa Street Primary School in Papanui
* I have prepared many students for ABRSM and Trinity piano exams
* accompanied primary school operettas
* pianist accompanist for ABRSM instrumental music exams
* church pianist
* occasionally sing at open mics
* provide students with opportunity to perform piano at annual summer NZMSM recital at Fat Eddies Jazz Club in Christchurch
* I have studio Jack Russell terriers that occasionally sit in on lessons. My neurodiverse students love to pet my attention loving canines.

About the lesson

Each student is unique - and I utilise a musical wholistic approach, incorporating a mixture of improvisation, duetting, singing, composition, musicianship, scales, arpeggios and chords, if these are relevant. I concentrate on what my student wants to learn.

Lessons are in my home, are individual and I have a studio Jack Russel Terrier who likes to sit in on lessons too.

I've known Genevieve for nearly five years. As an ex music tutor myself, I've seen first hand what an excellent tutor she is. She has a lovely gentle style with her students, friendly and playful yet firm and focussed. The dozens of accomplished young piano players who were taught by Genevieve, is testament to her skill. The children love her and so do their parents. I highly recommend her.
