About Todd

I am a Cambridge CELTA-certified English teacher and also a qualified lawyer in Ontario (Canada) and Vermont (USA).

For more than 15 years I worked as in-house counsel for international companies. In these roles I led complex negotiations in Europe, Russia and the Middle East, and designed and delivered training in English and French in Canada and Switzerland.

English and French are my native languages and I speak fluent German, so I can explain difficult points in your language – but the goal is always your English.

About the lesson

Do you have a specific goal in English: a negotiation, a presentation, a job interview or a move into an international role? I coach you in exactly the English you need to get there.

Or would you rather improve your English steadily, without a particular deadline? I can also support you over the longer term, with structured coaching built around your day-to-day work.

What we can work on:

– Negotiations: disagreeing tactfully while standing firm
– Reading between the lines: the subtleties of business communication in English, indirect phrasing and what the other side really means
– Presentations, meetings and working with international colleagues
– Clear, professional emails and reports
– Job interviews and preparing for an international role

My approach:

– Each session starts from what you need in your work today, rather than textbook exercises
– If you wish, we work from your own documents: emails, presentations, contracts

Lessons take place online, at my office in Basel in a historic building on the Rhine, or directly at your offices or workplace.
