About Subha
With 15 years of experience as a Veena musician, I bring a deep well of traditional knowledge to our sessions. My background allows me to bridge the gap between complex classical theory and beginner-friendly practical application, ensuring you receive authentic lessons.
Who it’s for: All ages! I specialise in teaching beginners of all levels.
Format: Personalised 1-to-1 sessions (Online conducted via Zoom, in person in Kent, UK)
Duration: Each session is around 40-60 minutes, covering both theory and practical play.

My Teaching Methodology:
I believe that music should never feel like a race. My approach is very student-centric and designed to foster a lifelong love for the Veena.
Engaging for Children: For younger students, I incorporate musical games and interactive exercises to keep their interest high. I also provide clear guidance for parents to help support their child's practice between sessions.
Every lesson is a blend of practical playing and the essential theory needed to understand the "why" behind the music.
Beginner Course Details :
* Foundations: Proper sitting posture, fingering techniques, and an introduction to the parts of the Veena.
* Theory & Ear Training: Naming and singing all seven Swaras and developing an understanding of Shruthi.
* Sarali Varisaigal: Practised in three speeds with Thalam.
* Jantai Varisai: Mastering double note sequences.
* Octave Training: Mel Sthyai and Keel Sthyai (upper and lower octaves).
* Alankarams: Understanding and playing exercises in simple Talams.
* Geethams: Small Carnatic songs with lyrics.
* Swarajathis: Progressing towards slightly more advanced compositions.
* At this stage, students usually begin to understand how to play full melodies. I incorporate 1–2 familiar or fun songs, which can include movie or bhajan songs.
I also conduct separate workshops for learning specific film songs or bhajan songs.
