About Tabitha

- What kind of experience do you have? I have been teaching piano for 20 years, privately and in schools. I have taught all levels from complete beginners to diploma-level. I also have concert and recording experience as a piano accompanist. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes, - Where and with whom did you train? I trained at Cambridge University with Hugh Wood, and at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Dussek and Andrew West. - Tell me about some of your current students. Adam is a very enthusiastic and bright student who has been coming to me since he was 4. He is now 12, holds a music scholarship to a top private school, and is working towards his Grade 8. Carl is a lawyer who had his very first piano lesson 3 years ago. He is also now working towards his Grade 8.

English

Trained at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, I teach all levels of classical piano, from four-year-olds (a good age to start!) to adults. I am an experienced teacher working privately from my home. References available. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach the Piano. - Tell me about your qualifications. I have a Master's degree in music from Cambridge University, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Piano Accompaniment from the Royal Academy of Music. Having lived in France as a child, I'm bilingual in French and English. - How much do you charge? £40 for half an hour, or pro rata. The first lesson is a trial lesson so it's free! Young children tend to start with 20 minutes (£26.66). - Where do you teach? I teach from my homes in Greenwich and Cambridge, and online. - When are you available? I teach Monday to Saturday - Which ages and levels do you teach? I teach all ages and levels. I am happy to teach young children - I find 4 a very good age to start, although I have sometimes taught children as young as 3. I also have many adult students, including several who started as complete beginners and are now some of my most accomplished students! - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? It is entirely up to my students whether or not they do exams - if they wish to, we follow the ABRSM syllabus, although I would be happy to work with an alternative syllabus if preferred. I also help prepare children for the performance element of GCSE and A-Level music.

Details

I charge £70 an hour or pro rata. The first lesson is a trial lesson so it is free - the free trial lesson lasts as long as the regular lessons are expected to be! Lessons last anything from 15 minutes (for very small people) to 90 minutes+ (for very advanced or keen people!) - it is up to you. Lessons are usually weekly though you can choose to have them more or less often (if affordable, lessons twice a week can be very helpful). Face-to-face lessons can be very helpful where possible, even if only occasionally (most of my students are face-to-face, but some students find it easier to do most/all of their lesson online). Some students find it helpful to have a weekly lesson face-to-face and then to have one or more shorter online "maintenance" lessons in between face-to-face lessons. Again, it is entirely up to you to choose whatever works best for you!
