About Megumi
Hi! I’m Megumi, a native Japanese speaker from Japan, currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand.
I studied Japanese language teaching in Japan and completed practical teaching training as part of the course. I’m currently just one credit away from completing the full program.
I also worked as a caregiver in Japan for about 10 years and have experience as a social worker, so I really enjoy communicating with and supporting people from different backgrounds.
I’m friendly and talkative, and I want my lessons to be relaxed and comfortable, where you can enjoy speaking Japanese without worrying about making mistakes.

I like to keep my lessons relaxed, friendly, and practical. I want you to feel comfortable speaking Japanese, even if you make mistakes!
Everyone learns differently, so I’ll tailor each lesson to your level, goals, and interests. We can focus on everyday conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, or whatever you would like to improve.
If you’re a complete beginner, don’t worry! We can start with simple greetings and basic phrases and take it step by step. If you already speak some Japanese, we can have more natural conversations and work on making your Japanese more fluent and confident.
I can also help students prepare for the JLPT and BJT, including grammar, vocabulary, reading, and exam practice.
Whether you’re learning Japanese for travel, work, life in Japan, exams, or simply for fun, I’ll adapt the lessons to your goals.
My lessons are usually 60 minutes and are available both in person and online.
Most importantly, I want you to enjoy and look forward to learning Japanese! Let’s have fun learning Japanese together!
