About Phillip
- What kind of experience do you have? I have qualified several years ago and have taught students with a wide range of different technical levels. This is in addition to my practical experience as a musician which spans over 15 years. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes. Fully up to date. Available for inspection at your first lesson. I am very happy and encourage parents to sit in the lessons. I feel this helps parents to fully understand what their children are learning and help support practising between lessons. - Where and with whom did you train? My teachers I individual lessons were as follows: Piano - Pauline Hall Theory of Music - Martin Hotton Organ - Martin Hotton, John Scott Whiteley and Robin Harrison. - Do you belong to any professional organisations? I currently hold membership of the Musicians Union and The Royal College of Organists. - Tell me about some of your current students. I have students currently studying with me throughout the age range with the youngest being six years old through to adults who are retired. Some are working towards ABRSM exams; all are making good progress.

My name is Phillip Sangwine and I have a passion for music teaching and performance. Music should be an integral part of everyone's life and I get great pleasure out of seeing students achieve when learning new pieces; be it for pleasure or exams. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Music. Organ, Piano, Musicianship and Theory of Music - Tell me about your qualifications. I have the following qualifications above grade 8. DipABRSM Piano Teaching 2020 MA (Music) Sacred Music Studies Bangor University 2013 LRSCM – Licentiate of The Royal School of Church Music RSCM / Bangor University 2011 DipRSCM – Diploma of The Royal School of Church Music RSCM / Bangor University 2010 Preliminary Certificate of The Royal School of Church Music RSCM / Bangor University 2008 - How much do you charge? I charge £15 per half hour for Piano, Organ and Music theory. I usually add a small charge extra for teaching at students' home to cover travel costs depending on the distance travelled. New students also have a first lesson free. - Where do you teach? At my studio in York or at students' homes in York, I also do online Zoom lessons. I am also happy to travel to teach in the surrounding districts just outside York. Please note for organ students. I will travel longer distances as there are not as many teachers for this instrument and students generally prefer to learn on an instrument they know well. Feel free to contact me and discuss arrangements for lessons. - When are you available? I work all weekdays and Saturdays during school term times. I will work on Sunday afternoons on request. I will also teach adults during the school holidays. - Which ages and levels do you teach? I teach from the age of seven through to adult. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? ABRSM graded examinations. - Do you have a personal message for students? I aim to encourage and inspire you in my lessons. Music is wonderful and being able to play music is something most people wish they could do. Be someone who no longer wishes and come and learn to play.
