About Megumi

Hello everyone! My name is Megumi and I am so excited to be your teacher !
My goal for this course is to help you build your Japanese skills, think critically, and feel confident in your learning. I encourage you to ask questions and share your ideas anytime. I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together toward your success.

About the lesson

1. Warm-up & Hook (5 minutes)

• Activity: Standard Japanese greetings (Konnichiwa).
• The Hook: The teacher displays images of popular cultural items (e.g., Anime, Sushi, Nintendo) with a big smiley face. The teacher points to them and enthusiastically says, "Anime ga suki desu!" to instantly introduce the concept of "liking" something without translating it yet.

2. Presentation: Vocab & Grammar (10 minutes)

• Vocabulary (4 mins): Introduce 4–5 universal nouns using visual cards:
• Neko (Cat), Inu (Dog), Sakana (Fish), Sportsu (Sports), Ongaku (Music).
• Grammar Structure (6 mins): Write the target formula clearly on the board:
• [Noun] + が好きです (ga suki desu) = I like [Noun].
• [Noun] + が好きですか (ga suki desu ka) = Do you like [Noun]?
• Note: Explicitly highlight that が (ga) is the particle used here, not を (wo).

3. Controlled Practice: Drilling (10 minutes)

• Choral Drill (3 mins): The teacher flashes a card (e.g., Neko). The whole class responds together: "Neko ga suki desu!" Repeat quickly with all vocabulary words to build muscle memory.
• Quick-Fire Substitution (4 mins): The teacher points to individual students and shows a card. The student must instantly say the correct sentence.
• Q&A Mechanical Drill (3 mins): The teacher asks a student: "Inu ga suki desu ka?" and teaches them to reply with a simple "Hai, suki desu" (Yes, I do) or "Iie, suki janai desu" (No, I don't).

4. Free Production: Mingle Activity (12 minutes)

• Activity - "Classroom Survey": Give each student a small slip of paper with a 3x3 grid containing icons of the vocabulary words.
• Task: Students must stand up, walk around the room, and ask at least three different classmates: "[Noun] ga suki desu ka?"
• Interaction: If their classmate says "Hai, suki desu," they write that classmate's name in the grid box. The teacher circulates to monitor particle usage and pronunciation.

5. Wrap-up & Close (3 minutes)

• Activity: Have students sit down. Ask one or two volunteers to share what their friends like (e.g., "Sarah-san wa anime ga suki desu").
• Closing: Deliver the final class bow and ritual farewell: "Arigatou gozaimashita. Sayounara!"
