  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I was about 8 or 9 when my Dad was driving my sister and I around listening to people like Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, to name a few. We weren't even going anywhere. We were just driving. Listening to their talent and later in interviews the way they spoke about music gave me goosebumps. I knew I needed to work in the industry and play an instrument. I just didn't know what.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

There's too many to name. Sometimes I just play music to put me in a good mood. If I'm ever feeling low one day I know it's because I haven't played or listened to music, It's like eating a good meal. It could never drive me crazy.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Nothing is difficult if it's something you love. It can be time consuming and sometimes monotonous but in the best way possible. There is no better feeling than finally being able to play something you once dreamt about playing. Especially in front of an audience.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I don't have an answer! It's similar to the last one, nothing is difficult if you love it. Especially when you have a good teacher! Haha.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Poor preparation = poor performance. Having the ability to unlearn and relearn is just as important as the initial learning. Put the time in!
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Great question, I'm heavily influenced by singers. I grew up listening to them and now it is my favourite thing to play with them live! Not only the way they play or sing, but the way they speak about music is so important to me. I think anything you practice/ love daily should be held to the highest standard. So... Nina Simone, Count Basie, and Aretha Franklin!
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Practice! If you don't know what to practice, book a lesson!
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I love it, I love it, I love it! I worked hard at making it my job and I work harder to keep it my job! Music is forever evolving and moving and you have to learn how to move with it.
