Hi, I'm George, from London. I absolutely love teaching Piano and am relieved that what used to be face-to-face lessons have been just as fruitful online since COVID-19 began.
My lessons are geared towards Beginners and Intermediate learners, meaning most of my students are kids, but my lessons are no less fun for adults!
My focus is to get you playing comfortably and confidently as soon as possible - as that's what keeps the passion alive! That's why I want you to have something to show off at the end of every lesson. Learning music should never feel like a chore.
I tailor the lessons to your needs and ambitions, whether that's preparing for ABRSM Exams (Grades 1-4) or working towards playing that song you've always wanted to master...
I teach with an emphasis on technical proficiency (finger strength, control etc.) and sight-reading, but I also make sure you gain musical knowledge (e.g. I, IV, V chords) as you progress. I do this by using books and materials that give you a thorough grounding in the basics, before moving up in difficulty.
For example, for total beginners, we will be centred around 'Middle C', with more simple pieces (songs) that get you comfortable with the numbering of the fingers, as well as learning to sight-read.
Once you are used to this range, and can pick out notes and tunes more easily, we gradually expand the area covered on the keyboard. At the same time, the pieces become more complex technically (more fingers playing at once) and rhythmically (counting in rhythms other than '4-beat').
Lesson structure:
- Begin with multiple warm up exercises
- Recap previous lesson: play the piece set as homework + discuss what was easy or difficult
- Work through new material
- New material set as homework
