About Calum
Calum Crosbie is a dynamic Canadian percussionist with a diverse background in orchestral work, drum set, pitwork, and new music. He began his musical journey at Wilfrid Laurier University, earning an Honours Bachelor of Music in Performance with Distinction, and continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where he achieved a Master of Arts in Music Performance with Distinction. At the Royal Academy, Calum benefited from studying with renowned percussionists Neil Percy, Simon Carrington, and Antoine Siguré, which deeply influenced his technique and artistry.
Calum's performance credits include playing timpani and percussion with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia, engaging with both classical and contemporary repertoires. His extensive jazz training, developed from high school through university, enriches his drum set performances across various styles, from jazz improvisations to high-energy rock.
In 2021, Calum won the Ken Murray Concerto Competition, underscoring his exceptional talent. He also brings his passion for music into teaching, having worked both privately and at the Interprovincial Music Camp, where he inspires and guides young musicians. In 2024 Calum received a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, giving him a prestigious teaching qualification.
His precise timing and adaptability mark Calum's contributions to theatrical productions in the pit, while his dedication to contemporary music fuels his work with new compositions and innovative projects. As a former member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 2021 and 2022, his commitment to advancing percussion performance and exploring new musical horizons is clear.
