About Karim
I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Postdoctoral Researcher, with an interdisciplinary background spanning materials science, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences and biotechnology.
I hold BSc and MSc degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and a PhD in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. I have more than 10 years of experience across higher education, scientific research and industrial R&D, including university teaching, student supervision and leadership of multidisciplinary research projects. I have authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications/conference proceedings and regularly review scientific research for academic journals.
Before entering my current role, I co-founded and helped lead a technology company, where I managed research and development activities and worked with scientists and engineers from different disciplines. This combination of academic and industrial experience enables me to connect scientific theories with practical, real-world applications.
I understand that every student has a different level of knowledge, learning pace and academic objective. I therefore aim to create a patient, respectful and encouraging learning environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and developing confidence.
Students can expect me to be prepared, punctual, approachable and committed to their progress. Whether I am supporting a high-school student, a college learner or a university researcher, I explain concepts clearly, adapt my teaching to the individual and maintain high standards of professionalism and academic integrity.

I provide structured, supportive and personalised online (in person in Glasgow) lessons for high-school, college and university students. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s age, academic level, curriculum and individual objectives.
I begin by identifying the student’s existing knowledge, course requirements and areas of difficulty. I then explain scientific and engineering concepts using clear language, diagrams, worked examples and relevant practical applications. Rather than relying on memorisation, I help students develop genuine understanding, confidence, critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills. Lessons include guided practice, opportunities to ask questions and a clear summary of the main learning points.
For high-school and college students, lessons focus on building strong scientific foundations, understanding difficult concepts, improving problem-solving skills and preparing effectively for coursework and examinations. For university students, the teaching can cover more specialised areas, including materials science and engineering, biomaterials, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, nanotechnology and pharmaceutical nanotechnology.
For research-methods lessons, I provide guidance on literature evaluation, research questions, experimental design, methodology, data interpretation, scientific figures, academic structure and responding to feedback. All support follows academic-integrity requirements: I guide students in developing their own knowledge and work rather than completing assessed work for them.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and includes a short review of previous learning, focused teaching, guided practice and agreed next steps. Ninety-minute sessions can also be arranged for advanced subjects, examination preparation or detailed research-project discussions.
I am a PhD-qualified Chartered Engineer with degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and a PhD in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. I have more than 10 years of experience across university teaching, academic research, student supervision and industrial R&D.
My lessons are suitable for high-school, college, undergraduate and postgraduate students, including MSc and PhD researchers. The content, pace and teaching approach are carefully adjusted to each student’s academic level and learning goals.
