About Joel

I’m a Fine Art graduate with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for education. I recently achieved a 2:1 in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University and earned top grades in Art at GCSE (9) and A-Level (A*). I enjoy helping students understand both the creative and academic sides of Art. Teaching is something I’m passionate about and plan to pursue long-term through a PGCE. Tutoring allows me to develop my teaching skills while working closely with students one-to-one, which I find especially rewarding. Art education has always been important to me as both of my grandparents were Art teachers and inspired me to value creativity as part of daily life. That influence shapes my tutoring approach: I aim to be supportive and encouraging, while helping students understand what exam boards are looking for and how to meet assessment criteria effectively. I’m organised, reliable, and professional and I take pride in preparing lessons tailored to each student’s needs and goals. I enjoy building students’ confidence, helping them develop their own ideas and seeing them make real progress in their coursework and sketchbooks. About the lesson

My lessons are supportive, structured and tailored to each student’s individual needs and exam board requirements. As a Fine Art graduate with top grades in GCSE (9) and A-Level Art (A*), I understand both the creative process and how work is assessed. I focus on helping students develop strong ideas, improve coursework, and build confident sketchbooks, rather than just producing rushed final pieces. Lessons are practical and may include visual demonstrations, guided discussion, feedback on existing work and clear next steps for independent study. I support GCSE and A-Level students with: • Coursework and sketchbook development • Artist research and annotation • Idea generation and refinement • Understanding assessment objectives and mark schemes • Portfolio preparation and organisation Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although 30-minute sessions are available for focused feedback. Sessions take place online via video call, using screen sharing and visual references. I teach students of all abilities, including those preparing art portfolios for further education or looking to improve confidence and exam performance. I aim to create a calm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing their own creative voice and making measurable progress in their work.
