About Amie
I am a mature 4th year music major at U of Guelph, where I specialize in voice and performance, but my greatest passions also include music theory, and musical theater! Thriving in the subject from elementary throughout University, music theory has always been my strongest academic suit and one of my greatest passions. My goal is to pass that excitement on!
I have been working as Stagecoach Guelph's (international musical theater program for youth) singing teacher since October 2025, and just this past semester I completed a music pedagogy course (UofG 3rd year), making me ready to teach music! I have also successfully tutored students in theory, ranging from beginner level to university level, and am happy to begin at whatever level suits you! As for hands-on lessons, I have taught beginner guitar and piano in the past, and I have truly thrived as a vocal teacher throughout my practicum in my pedagogy course, where my student and I both saw her clear progress within 4 short lessons!
I also have a long past of childcare (running my own childcare business since 2016, several camp counselor experiences), so if you are looking for a tutor for your kiddo, I have experience with all ages!

As a music teacher, I understand the vulnerability that comes with learning, making, and performing music. I believe musicians need a safe environment that encourages freedom to explore and make mistakes. That being said, I also understand the importance of discipline, and learning music is great for building discipline!
I have successfully tutored from beginner to university level music theory, and have an extensive childcare background, so if you are looking for a safe learning environment for your little one, I am happy to provide that! I also believe that it is never too late to begin learning music. It is healing and beneficial at all ages. As we grow older, music can also help with our memory, our peace, and even our ailments. Everyone should feel welcome and safe to learn about the beauty that is music with me, I love beginners of every age!! I love teaching all levels, as well :)
My most tried and true techniques
Sound first - If you learn what concepts look like on paper without listening to them first, it will just become writing on paper, but if you hear it first, you can process how it translates onto the sheet music
Pattern recognition - Asking students what patterns they notice (ex. intervallic relationships within the major scale and noticing how the patterns translate from key to key)
Visuals - Keyboard illustrations, scale charts, chord charts, circle of fifths
Real life examples - Theory practices in popular music to exemplify theory being executed in songwriting
Singing - I will never force anyone to sing, or do anything they aren't comfortable with, but I will advise you on what steps you can take for the most improvement, and in the case of ear training (identifying different chords and intervals by ear), I will advise you that a little bit of singing is necessary to reach your full potential
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I’m friends with Amie and she asked if I would do singing lessons with her for a school project and I immediately said yes knowing the kind of supportive person she is! I had no background in singing and she taught me a lot of different technical concepts while not overwhelming me with too much information. I never felt embarrassed to ask questions or for clarification! During our lessons Amie always made me feel so comfortable and I feel that I was able to see improvement as we went along.
