About Emma

I am a friendly, patient, and approachable tutor who believes learning should feel supportive and motivating. I focus on building confidence, improving understanding, and helping students develop independent study skills, so they feel more prepared and in control of their learning both inside and outside of tutoring sessions.

If you feel I could be the right tutor for you, I would love to work alongside you, creating supportive and motivating lessons that help you grow in confidence, strengthen your understanding, and feel more prepared for success.

About the lesson

Newly qualified Geography and Modern Studies teacher in Scotland, offering tutoring for students preparing for National 5 and Higher (SQA) exams. I have completed multiple placements in secondary schools, giving me strong experience working with a range of abilities and supporting learners to build both subject knowledge and confidence.

My lessons are carefully structured with a clear start, middle and end, and are tailored to suit each individual student’s needs and goals. Whether lessons are online or in person, I use a variety of teaching methods including SQA-style exam questions, model answers, retrieval practice, quizzes, discussion, and visual resources to keep sessions active and engaging. I also support students with homework, coursework, and revision planning, helping them understand both the content and exam technique needed to succeed. Sessions tend to last between 45-60 minutes but can be adjusted to suit.

Perfect! Emma did an amazing job with my son Isaac to help him prepare for his higher geography exam. She was always well-prepared and organised. She kept Isaac focused during classes and backed the lessons up with plenty of homework. We were very lucky to find such a hard-working home tutor!

I have known Emma for eight years, and throughout that time she has consistently shown a strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to her career. She has put everything into achieving her dual teaching degree, and her graduation is a true testament to the effort, commitment, and perseverance she brings to everything she does.

Emma is an exceptionally caring and patient person who always takes the time to understand the needs of others. She is constantly thinking of new and engaging activities to involve her students, helping them enjoy lessons and feel genuinely invested and excited about the topics they are learning.

Her quick wit and great sense of humour allow her to easily build strong rapport with students, something she demonstrated clearly during her university teaching placement. Geography is a particular passion of Emma’s and has been ever since she was in school herself. Alongside this, she has a strong love of travelling and enjoys visiting new countries and exploring the world.

I’ve known Emma over the past 5 years after studying together at university and she is very friendly, patient and passionate about teaching her subjects. Emma has worked hard to achieve her dual qualification, and I can see she enjoys and is knowledgeable in both geography and modern studies. She is also a very approachable and encouraging person and I would highly recommend her as a tutor as I know she will go above and beyond to support her students and take the time to make sure they do well!
