About Chef

Chef JoAnna has a friendly, informal teaching style that puts you at ease.

When you learn to cook in your own home, Chef JoAnna will show you how to coax the best results from your own home equipment and appliances. Since lessons are taught in your own home. you can feel comfortable knowing you'll be able to reproduce the same fantastic results later on. Because Chef JoAnna's career as a personal chef puts her in a new kitchen every week, she can share her experiences and show you how to work around the obstacles of producing restaurant-quality food in a residential kitchen.

"When I'm doing cooking lessons, I'm helping people learn how to take care of themselves - even spoil themselves a little bit - by showing them that they can enjoy wholesome, home-made food more often."

About the lesson

You let me know what you're interested in learning, and will find (or write) a recipe for your lesson. My service includes custom lesson planning, recipe booklets, time spent grocery shopping*, advance preparation, three hours of hands-on instruction, use of any specialized equipment, and clean-up. All participants can borrow my toques & aprons. *The cost of groceries is additional and varies depending on what you prefer. For example, a menu of conventionally-raised chicken, vegetables and pasta/grains will be considerably less expensive than grass-fed beef and organically grown vegetables. I typically shop at Publix or Kroger, and would be happy to go to Whole Foods or another specialty market upon request.

I hired Chef JoAnna come to my house to give a private cooking lesson to myself and my wife. She was very flexible in setting up the time of the lesson and the menu. She provided some suggestions that included full meals or mix and match courses. We opted for the Butter Nut Squash Ravioli and Linguini with two different sauces. Both were made with pasta that we made from scratch. The dessert was tiramisu that was just a delicious as any tiramisu I've ever had. She even covered lots of different cooking tips, skills, and equipment. We LOVED it. I was worried it might be a little awkward, but JoAnna and her sense of humor made it as comfortable as possible. It was my request to start at 5:30 pm due to time constraints, but I would recommend starting a little earlier if possible as it was several hours before we were ready to eat what we cooked (pasta is hard, ha-ha). JoAnna warned us it would be awhile, but I'd like to further recommend that you be prepared to wait 3-4 hrs. If anyone is thinking of having a lesson, I highly recommend using Chef JoAnna.
