About Catherine

While I'm currently a college theatre student myself, I have nearly a decade and a half of consistent acting experience as well as directing and stage management credits that have fostered a personal insight into guiding actors in a way that draws on both sides of my knowledge. I have managed and directed actors of all ages from as young as 5 to mid-seventies and have found every experience to be both rewarding and educational. I have teaching experience as a summer camp counselor where I've worked with and taught children from ages 5-11, and am well versed in both leadership and teamwork as someone frequently in very collaborative but leadership-focused positions. My dramaturgical, directing, and acting experience, compounded with my communication skills from stage management, make me confident and enthusiastic about my abilities to identify and analyze character motivations, relationships, dialogue subtext, playwright intention, scene context, and emotional beats. I view my actively continuing education as a benefit to my coaching, as I believe the best leaders are those who are still embracing their own growth and pursuit of knowledge.

About the lesson

My approach is grounded in communication and collaboration, prioritizing a balance of comprehension and personal health/comfort. I seek to build safer and more accessible theatre workspaces while thoroughly analyzing and evoking a play or scene's context, intention, and impact through both actor interpretation and dramaturgical assessment. I would love to help choose audition monologues, analyze scripts, develop characters & relationship dynamics, or assist scenework, and I'm open to inquiry about other requests. As a director and stage manager I've striven to use my experiences as an actor to inform my cultivation of a comfortable and productive environment where creativity and critical thinking can flourish. When an actor feels safe, comfortable, supported, and encouraged while still being given solid framework and guidance, that is when they can realize their most effective work.
