I gained great experience working at Stardom Performing Arts as a teaching assistant within the dance classes held there. I helped teach basic dance to children aged three-eight years during saturday morning classes. As part of my other duties, I also helped to run a small ‘cafe’ during the younger classes, which involved handling money, stock and serving drinks to parents and carers. This job gave me my first experience working with children and helped me to build my confidence in leadership and organisation.
Name of employer: Self-employed Dates: October 2015 – February 2016
I taught piano lessons to a fellow student once a week. This allowed me to further my music skills and my independent leadership, as well as developing my confidence.
Name of employer: Oleksandra Antonova Dates: January 2018 - August 2019
I have worked with Stagecoach Halifax for the past 19 months as a teaching assistant in the early stages class. I mainly worked with children aged four to six, but also worked with children up to eighteen during the company’s holiday workshops. I have developed my teaching skills while covering for absent teachers, and so have become more confident in leading my own classes.
Hobbies and interests
I attended piano lessons, achieving my ABRSM grades up to and including grade six. I also began taking flute lessons in the spring of 2014, also achieving an ABRSM grade six. I have also attended our school wind band (2014 to 2018) and choir (2012 to 2016), and passed my grade ABRSM music theory grade five exam in 2016. In September of 2015, I joined a senior dance class with Stardom Performing Arts School and have been attending up to July 2019, performing in an annual show at the Victoria Theatre to showcase dancing, singing and solo opportunities. In September 2017 to December 2017, I joined the leadership of a student-run singing group, where I had the opportunity to arrange and teach songs to younger students as well as using my piano talents to accompany the group at performances within school. During my final years at school , I took on more responsibilities within the music department, such as organising music performances at school events and performing solo pieces myself.
Aside from music, I have been an active girl guide/ scout from the age of 5, making my way through rainbows, brownies, moving to scouts at age ten and proceeding to explorers until I was sixteen. This also allowed me to be a part of the annual gang show for seven years, a stage show consisting of dancing, singing and acting. Scouting provided the opportunity to lead and supervise groups of younger children when I reached explorers, allowing experience in group organisation and practice in leadership. There were various volunteering opportunities
Through my early teen years, I was also involved with TAODS (Todmorden Amateur Operatic Dramatic Society), where I had the opportunity to take part in musical theatre productions including Les Miserables and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. I also had this opportunity at school, playing in the band of two school productions.
During sixth form I has the opportunity to lead my house as house captain. This gave me experience in responsibility, organisation and presentation, and allowed me to develop my confidence as a leader and group speaker. This was a surprisingly difficult role, and allowed me to work under pressure and improve my time management as I balanced this role with my A levels.
