About Hannah

I've worked as a walking tour guide for years, leading visitors through city streets and sharing local history, and that storytelling background shapes almost everything about how I teach ESL today. Eight years into teaching now, I've worked with about one hundred sixty-five adult students, many of them newcomers or immigrants who genuinely benefit from learning language tied to real, navigable places rather than abstract material. My guiding background gives me a naturally narrative, place-based teaching style, treating language learning a bit like exploring a new city, one interesting street at a time. I connect particularly well with students who respond to storytelling and real-world context rather than dry theory disconnected from anything tangible or genuinely memorable. My teaching style is warm, conversational, and genuinely grounded, built on the belief that real places and real stories naturally open engaged, lasting conversation. I take genuine pride in watching a student confidently describe their new neighborhood or tell a genuine story entirely in English. Many students tell me they finally look forward to lessons, partly because we're usually exploring something they genuinely find interesting together. My approach treats language as something to be discovered on foot, not just studied at a desk. After eight years, I remain genuinely passionate about this teaching approach.

I've spent years leading walking tours, telling stories about streets and buildings to strangers, and that storytelling instinct shapes an entirely narrative approach to teaching ESL. Lessons often begin with a place, a neighbourhood, a landmark, describing its story together, since geography and history naturally build rich, memorable vocabulary and grammar in context. Vocabulary grows around place, direction, and description, genuinely useful words for navigating a city confidently rather than abstract lists disconnected from any real, walkable setting. Grammar gets taught through narrative and description, past tenses especially, since recounting a place's history naturally requires exactly the structures many adult learners genuinely struggle with elsewhere. I encourage students to describe their own neighbourhood or a place that matters to them, building genuine, personal speaking practice tied to something real rather than an assigned generic topic. Listening practice sometimes uses walking tour recordings and local interviews, exposing students to natural English wrapped around genuinely engaging local storytelling content. I keep lessons conversational and grounded, closer to a guided walk than a formal classroom lesson, since that atmosphere genuinely helps students relax and actually retain what we cover. Cultural and historical context receives real attention throughout, since understanding a new place's story genuinely deepens confidence for newcomers. Every lesson leaves students with a real story.
