About Janine

Hi, I'm Janine — a multilingual teacher, artist, and cultural educator.

I come from multicultural roots, with a Swedish-Danish mother and a Brazilian father. Growing up among different cultures definitely sparked my curiosity for languages and the different ways people live, think, and express themselves.

I hold a degree in Latin American Studies from Stockholm University and completed my entire academic education in English. In addition, I have professional experience teaching English in Swedish schools and I speak six languages.

I've lived and studied in Sweden, Denmark, Brazil, Cuba, Senegal, and Cape Verde. Throughout my life, I have sought to learn and use different languages in real-life contexts, which has given me a very practical understanding of the challenges, obstacles, and strategies involved in language learning.

Besides teaching languages, I have also worked with music, dance, and cultural education projects in cultural institutions and independent educational initiatives. I have taught students of different ages and backgrounds — from teenagers to retirees — always adapting my work to the needs, interests, and goals of each person.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is following my students' development over time. Seeing their confidence grow, witnessing when something finally clicks, and helping people discover they are capable of much more than they imagined is something that continues to motivate me deeply.

About the lesson

My classes are very focused on conversation and the active use of language through real-life topics and situations that you can relate to, because it's regular and meaningful use that truly makes the language take root—both from my own experience learning six languages and from what we know about language acquisition.

My approach is based on creating a warm, welcoming, and at the same time challenging environment where you can dare to speak without fear of making mistakes. And I honestly feel that's one of the most valuable things about studying with a private tutor: finally having a real space to practice the language actively and regularly.

I strongly believe that vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar become much more natural when they are connected to real communication, emotions, and meaningful contexts rather than isolated memorization.

That's why my classes are heavily focused on conversation, real-time feedback, and active speaking practice. When new words, expressions, pronunciation patterns, or grammatical structures appear during our conversations, I try to bring them back naturally over time to strengthen memory and make the language feel more alive and automatic.

So the goal is not just to "study English," but to start living the language in a more natural way.
