I have always hated learning a language by heart. My goal is for the students to know how to use it, even to think in a different language apart from their native language. Gain fluency in oral expression, control grammar, acquire vocabulary, etc. This only becomes permanent if at the time you learn you use your knowledge, which means that in class there will be constant practice.
