About Sohail

Salam (Greetings)! I’m a UCF graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, currently working as a Clinical Research Coordinator and preparing to apply to medical school. I’ve always enjoyed learning about science and solving challenging problems, and I’d love to share that passion with others!

My goal as a tutor is to make difficult subjects easier to understand, create a comfortable learning environment, and help students build confidence in their abilities. I believe everyone can succeed with the right guidance, patience, and study strategies. Whether you’re struggling with a specific topic or simply want to improve your grades, I’m here to help you learn at your own pace and reach your goals. I look forward to learning and growing together!

Step 1) Assess the student

I identify learning gaps by asking the student what they're studying, what they find difficult, and what their next exam covers.

The goal: Discover what the student knows versus what they think they know.

Step 2) Set a measurable objective

I define success based off of the results from step one. I choose one or two specific outcomes for the session. For example: “By the end, you will independently solve four out of five linear equations.”

The goal: Keep the session/student focused and to give the student a clear target.

Step 3) Explain and demonstrate

I build understanding by explaining the concept in simple language, connecting it to a real-world example, and demonstrating one worked problem while explaining my thinking.

The goal: Give the student a clear model to follow before asking them to work independently.

Step 4) Practice together

I gradually transfer responsibility by solving two or three problems together. I let the student do most of the work while I ask guiding questions and correct errors with specific feedback.

The goal: Move from watching me solve problems to having the student solve them with moderate guidance.

Step 5) Test independent mastery

I have the student solve 3–5 new questions without notes or help including a question that requires applying the concept in a slightly different way.

The goal: Verify that the student can use the knowledge independently—not merely repeat my explanation.

Step 6) Review and plan

Lastly, reinforce retention. I review mistakes, ask the student to summarize the lesson, and assign a small amount of targeted practice. Finish by identifying what needs further review.

The goal: Make learning measurable and prepare for the next session.
