  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always been interested in education and learning. I became interested in private tutoring back in 2014 when I was finishing up my degree in English Literature and art. Ever since, I have had students in some capacity helping them through their subjects. As that continued, I became more and more interested in higher math and science courses such as Calculus and Chemistry.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

For a lifetime, I have been a working artist in painting, drawing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, and pyrography. Alongside that, I have a degree in English Literature due to my love of poetry and fiction, so I love helping with Essay Prep, Standardized Testing preparation, and College Level English.

In 2018, I decided to go back to school to study Calculus one, two, and three as well as Linear Algebra. Calculus has become one of my favorite subjects alongside art. I am a life-long student that will keep growing.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My first major inspiration that enlightened art in me was my high school art teacher. He pushed me out of the box and showed me all kinds of mixed mediums and freedom of expression. My other inspiration is my Figure Drawing teacher in College. He was peaceful, kind, and open to wonderful conversations about the world, art, and really taught me many of the fundamentals.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Some of the major qualities required to be a good tutor to me include patience, adaptability, empathy, communication skills, experience with the many types of learning styles, a love of education in their field, and the will to provide motivation when needed.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Through my studies and years in college, I lived through many tragedies and struggles related to my family. Out of those times of turmoil, I learned how to harness my emotions, my happiness, my will, and find peace. As Lao Tzu once said, "there is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will." Most things in life, we cannot control, but one thing you can control is your actions, words, and intelligence. This drove me to finding higher understanding in life by studying many subjects from English to math, philosophy, and art. I came to love educational growth and made a goal to become a renaissance woman and a woman of peace.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Some challenges I have faced in my subject are the many different types of classes in one subject from schools across the country! I tutor primarily in Calculus now and it seems that not one class is alike. I learned that there are a plethora of different courses surrounding just Calculus which led me to study more and more in depth topics so that I could be a successful tutor in each one. You learn something new with every student!
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is experience in the world across topics and subjects. I love creation and expression of art such as literature and painting. Creating art is probably the most important passion of my life.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

I am a Superprof because I have become an expert in my subjects. I am resourceful, put in endless effort, and really care about advancing my students. I have learned how to provide my students with tools to succeed, not only in the subjects I tutor, but in their educational and life experience as a whole. Not only that, but I am still studying new topics to this day! My areas of expertise will continue to expand as I grow.
