About Alexis
As a student-teacher at Oxford House, I enhanced English verbal, written, listening, and reading skills through 45 to 90 minute classes geared for adult native Spanish and Portuguese speakers. I have experience teaching many levels, from Elementary (A2) to Advanced (B2/C1). I am familiar with a variety of course books, including the New English File, Life, and Outcomes. I am comfortable adhering to curriculum and syllabus guidelines as well as adapting course material to meet student needs. I have taught in both private tutoring and group settings, with class sizes ranging from five to 20.
Over 3 years experience as a professional writer, editor, and digital marketer honed my written and spoken English mastery. I have a strong understanding of journalistic jargon and digital marketing terminology. Contributions as a freelance writer and editor continue to improve my written English skills.
Worked as a business management and communications consultant for a Portland- based firm. Contributed to client projects, including data and systems management and as a stand-in director to clients' marketing BU. The role allowed me to work cross- functionally in several industries where I gained a holistic understanding of internal corporate operations as well as niche specialization in MarCom strategy and planning. These assignments and my experience as an internal business lead equipped me with the vernacular to successfully teach business English.

My approach to lesson planning is practicality. I choose topics that I believe will be interesting, engaging, and relevant to students. When students enjoy the lesson, they learn more, and it's more fun for me! My practical editorial and business communications experience makes me a stickler for correct syntax and grammar, but I'm especially skilled at hearing and correcting mispronunciation.
