About Lauren
-I focus on long term improvement. Acing a test is great, but mastering concepts and improving problem solving skills will set students up for success in the future.
-I rely on my background as a math major and current job as a financial analyst to relate elementary math to "real world" scenerios. In doing this, students get excited to be challenged beyond their classroom curriculum.
-Earning my degree in math was very difficult! I can empathise with students struggling with new math concepts, but I also can rely on my experience in order to teach study strategies and test taking tips to help students excel in math and beyond.
-I love seeing students get excited to learn a new topic! When working in a group setting, I try to help students learn from each other so they can "show off" their strengths. As an education minor in university, I learned that students rise to the expectations that we set for them. Nothing makes me happier than setting high expectations for students and helping them to achieve that.
I have a degree in Mathematical Probability and Statistics from the University of Miami with minors in finance and education. I have over 6 years of private tutoring experience, and my goal as a tutor is to help students excel in their curriculum while providing real world examples to make math fun. My 6 years of tutoring experience includes 3 years experience as an instructor across multiple Mathnasium tutoring center locations. I also have also held the position of Assistant Center Director. Now, I work as a financial analyst in downtown Chicago (currently working from home), but I am passionate about continuing teaching math outside of my work hours.

This isn't exactly recent, but I am fascinated by the Great Molasses Flood which occured in Boston in 1919. A large storage tank filled with molasses burst, releasing 13,000 tons of syrup into Boston at 35mph. When I was in high school, I learned of this event not in history class, but in math class. During a lesson on force weight, my calculus teacher taught us that the molasses tank burst because there was too much mathmatical pressure on the tank walls. We then calculated the exact maximum force so that the tank would not burst. These types of exciting insights inspired me as a student, and I always look to bring in similar real world examples into my tutoring lessons.
