About Sophie

Throughout my career, I've been fascinated by the human voice, its possibilities and the individuality of every singer. My own experiences as a performer, alongside my work in vocal coaching and teaching, have shaped my interest in the relationship between vocal technique, artistic expression and performance, and supporting singers to find the most fulfilment from their vocal performance as possible.

One of the things I enjoy most about coaching is traveling alongside singers while they explore and better understand their own voices, being part of their excitement (and yes the frustrating parts of the journey too!).
I particularly enjoy demystifying vocal development, making complex ideas more accessible, fun and helping singers navigate the sometimes confusing and conflicting information surrounding singing! Ultimately, supporting their own vocal freedom and joy in their expression and performance.

I believe that respecting the individual is an important part of their voice development. My approach is collaborative in its nature. It combines specialist technical knowledge that should be expected, together with practical exploration of how to realise that for your voice, recognising that different singers may benefit from different approaches, and there is never any judgement or feeling that one vocal sound or way is ‘better’ or ‘worse'.

My aim is to support singers in developing their vocal capabilities, confidence in exploring new possibilities and building the understanding, skills and independence to make informed choices about their own vocal development and performance choices.

Singing is individual and unique and I aim to treat all voices with the respect each and everyone deserves.

I'm a specialist vocal development and performance coach with over 17 years of coaching/teaching experience, alongside over 20+ years professional experience as a vocalist, actor and performer.

As a performer I trained professionally in London & New York in musical theatre, acting & voice. As a vocal coach and educator I hold an MA in Professional Practice (Voice Pedagogy) and currently work as a Senior Lecturer (BA Musical Theatre & Performing Arts). My previous educational roles include Lecturer and Module Leader (MA in Voice Pedagogy), and Musical Theatre Pathway Leader (BA in Performing Arts).

I am currently a DProf Candidate, undertaking doctoral research exploring vocal coaching in contemporary vocal performance.

My Coaching Approach

Singing is personal, and I recognise that no two singers bring exactly the same experiences, needs or goals to their development.

My particular interest lies at the intersection of vocal technique, vocal development and performance application. I work with singers across contemporary styles, including pop, rock and musical theatre, combining technical knowledge, evidence-informed and professional performance and coaching experience.

My approach is collaborative, curious and purposeful. I aim to demystify vocal development, explore technical and expressive possibilities, and support singers in developing greater vocal ease, flexibility, adaptability and informed vocal and performance choices.

Sessions are individualised and may involve technical vocal development, exploring vocal style and qualities, repertoire, acting through song, audition preparation, vocal wellbeing or approaches to independent practice.

I recognise that technical development and artistic expression are interconnected, and my aim is to support singers in developing their vocal capabilities and applying them meaningfully in performance.

I work primarily with motivated singers and performers aged 16+, from those preparing for further training to emerging and experienced professionals.

Individual coaching sessions are between 60-75 minutes, allowing space for practical exploration, discussion, feedback and purposeful planning.

Coaching Rates & Flexible Bookings

 Individual Session —£70

60-75 minute where needed and scheduling allows. Sessions provide space for practical vocal exploration, technical development, discussion, feedback and purposeful planning, tailored to your individual needs and goals.

 5-Session Block — £325 (£65 per session)
 Valid for 8 months from the date of purchase.

 10-Session Block — £600 (£60 per session)
 Valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

Flexible Scheduling
There's no requirement to attend weekly.

You can book a standalone session for a particular question, challenge or performance preparation, or choose a block of sessions to support your development over time.

 Block sessions can be arranged more intensively or spaced further apart according to your individual goals, commitments and availability.

My approach recognises that vocal development is personal, and the most useful frequency of coaching may vary between singers and at different stages of their development. All sessions and plans are individually tailored rather than following a prescribed programme. We can discuss your need during the initial consulation.
