I am a retired math teacher of 32 years in Battle Creek. Taught in Africa for a year, department leader for 10 years, curriculum specialist for 10 years, and well versed in Common core. My undergraduate degree is a BS in Mathematics/Statistics from Michigan Tech. My graduate degree is a MA in Mathematics Ed.

I begin by using a backwards design to the unit. Identify the 2-3 enduring understandings first. Break down each enduring understanding to bite size concept/skills. Then design activities around those concepts that will promote quality critical thinking.
