About John

With more than 20 years of experience teaching guitar, and having already taught more than 200 students, I offer courses that will not only lead you towards mastery of the instrument, but also the acquisition of 'a deep knowledge of the internal workings of music, whether harmonic, rhythmic etc...

Born in Australia, I obtained my Bachelor of Music Performance from The Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music in 2002, with honors (High Distinction). I have taught at some of Australia's most prestigious schools, such as Scotch College, The Gellong College and Geelong Grammar.

Since moving to France in 2007, I have been teaching guitar lessons at the Academie Inter Musicale de Paris. Since 2012, I have hosted and played in the musical duo "Fight for the Mic." This requires memorized knowledge of more than 400 songs at any given time! Taken from the pop repertoire. So if there's a song you want to learn, chances are I'm already playing it and I've already taught that song to a student.

The best musical instrument in the world, without a doubt, is the guitar! It is light, relatively inexpensive compared to others. But above all, she is well loved. We love hearing the guitar. However, it is very physically demanding, and like most musical instruments, it is quite complex.

So, for beginners: I'm going to show you how to sit. How to hold the guitar. Where to place your thumb (wrist, fingers, etc.). Basic chords, basic melodies. But above all, I show you why, for example, a G major chord is the way it is. Because it's one thing for someone to simply show you where to place your fingers, but learning why they should be placed there is the basis of musical knowledge.

As for mid-level players. So you can scratch your way through a few songs. But do you know why one agreement is followed by another? Or did you think the composer was just choosing these chords at random and they went well together by chance? Or maybe you just never thought about it... So you can play a few solos. But have you ever thought about why these notes were chosen and not others? Well, I'm here to help you understand why. You will be much better and faster if you do this.

As for advanced players: Are you still having trouble playing 'cleanly' and at the right tempo? Are you always nervous when performing in public? (sweating, trembling hands, unable to concentrate...). I will help you overcome this. I will help you create a disciplined routine to improve 'range', 'speed', improvisation, etc. Learn to play a solo in any key, without interruption, from open position to the 22nd fret.

Finally, whether you are a beginner or advanced, DON'T FORGET TO PRACTICE! It is the only way... ;)
