About the lesson

Huizi Wang’s Unique Percussion & Drum Set Teaching Methodology

Drumming is more than just keeping time—it's about control, creativity, and connection to rhythm. My teaching method focuses on developing a strong technical foundation while encouraging musical expression and fluid movement. With years of experience as both a performer and educator, I incorporate Tai Chi Chuan-based body awareness techniques to help students play with ease, power, and precision. This approach minimizes tension, improves endurance, and allows for greater speed and agility without unnecessary strain. Whether you want to master the drum set, orchestral percussion, or hand percussion, my lessons will provide the skills and confidence to excel in any musical setting.

What to Expect in a Typical Lesson Each lesson is tailored to the student's level and goals, but a typical session includes:

Warm-up & Technique Development – Exercises to improve stick control, hand speed, foot independence, and dynamic range.
Groove & Timing Training – Mastering different styles (rock, jazz, funk, Latin, classical) with a focus on locking into the beat and developing solid timekeeping.
Coordination & Independence – Step-by-step drills to train hands and feet separately before bringing everything together for seamless drumming.
Music Interpretation & Creativity – Learning how to build fills, improvise, and adapt drumming to different musical contexts.
Ear Training & Chart Reading – Strengthening the ability to listen, anticipate changes, and sight-read drum notation.
Performance & Stage Presence – Developing confidence behind the drum set for live gigs, auditions, and recordings.

Why Choose My Lessons?
Holistic & Efficient Technique – My approach ensures fluid, tension-free playing, helping students avoid bad habits that lead to injury or stiffness.
Versatile & Personalized Instruction – Whether you're into rock, jazz, Latin, or orchestral percussion, I adapt lessons to suit your musical interests and goals.
Rhythm & Musicality Focus – As a percussionist with extensive performance experience, I teach students how to feel and interpret rhythm naturally rather than just following patterns.
Hands-On, Engaging Learning – My lessons balance structure with creativity, ensuring students develop essential skills while having fun exploring their musical potential.

Drumming should feel natural, expressive, and exciting—with the right technique, mindset, and guidance, anyone can master rhythm and make the drums come alive. Let’s start your journey today!
