About Johan
I’m a passionate drummer with over five years of experience, having played in several school bands and completed NCEA Music. I’m currently a Year 13 student studying all three sciences at NCEA Level 3, and I also enjoy playing and coaching badminton. While I’m new to tutoring drums, I have experience working with kids and know how to make lessons fun, encouraging, and easy to follow. I focus on building rhythm, coordination, and confidence, with just the right amount of theory to support learning without overwhelming beginners. I’m offering drum lessons not only because I love music and teaching, but also to help support myself financially as I prepare to study at university next year.

My name is Johan, and I’m excited to offer fun and engaging beginner drum lessons for kids aged 5 to 12.
With over 5 years of drumming experience, I’ve played in multiple school bands and am a qualified NCEA Music student. While I’m new to tutoring drums specifically, I’ve previously tutored badminton for juniors, so I understand how to connect with younger learners and make lessons enjoyable and confidence-building.
What I Offer:
30-minute to 1-hour sessions tailored to each student
A fun, relaxed environment focused on enjoying the process of learning
Emphasis on rhythm, coordination, and hand movement
Just a little theory, the basics, enough to build a strong foundation, but never overwhelming, more of learning the rhythm.
My main goal is to help kids fall in love with drumming, so they can focus on harder theory once they are comfortable, not through pressure, but by making music exciting and approachable. Whether it’s their first time picking up sticks or they’re just starting, I aim to make every lesson feel like a jam session, not a classroom.
