About Michael
My name is Michael and I use he/him pronouns. I respectfully acknowledge that I live on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, and that their enduring relationship with this land has existed since time immemorial. I hold a BA (with Distinction) and MA in Political Science. I also obtained my JD from the University of Victoria and practice as a lawyer. During my MA, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in Canadian politics where I led classroom tutorials, held office hours to answer student questions, and graded student essays and exams. I am passionate about persuasive academic writing, political science and law, and I'm eager to assist you in learning about these areas of interest!

I provide a free 30-minute consultation to allow us a chance to meet, discuss your goals and your hopes for our tutoring sessions, and provide an overview of how tutoring will proceed from there. You can then book sessions with me at my regular rate as needed. All sessions are available online. In Vancouver, sessions may be booked in person at a cafe.
I use my past experience as a Teaching Assistant to develop a tutoring approach that is tailored to your needs: I will always ask for feedback after our sessions so that I can adjust my tutoring approach to your style of learning.
For Political Science student inquiries, I can assist you by:
1. Helping you to understand content from first and second-year political science classes;
2. Helping you to understand the basics of Canadian & American government--with detailed explanations of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches in either country--along with constitutional politics and federalism, party politics, gender and politics, protest and social movements (e.g. 2SLGBTQ+ activism), and historical injustice;
3. Providing an overview of the field of comparative political science; and
4. Assisting you with navigating content in upper-year undergraduate or graduate political science courses.
I am happy to assist you in learning the foundations of political science, government, and academic research and writing so that you can excel throughout your college & university studies!

I first met Michael during an internship we completed together at the BC Legislature. I know that Michael excelled academically during his studies and was very willing to support his classmates. Michael will effectively listen and respond to the concerns of his students, and will create a safe, inclusive space for them to learn.
I taught Michael in his undergraduate studies and supervised his MA thesis. He was a stellar student and displayed continuous commitment to learning and improvement, even when he was already at or near the top of the class. He also showed deep commitment to diversity and inclusion. Michael's academic excellence and ethical concern for the needs of others make him a a truly excellent choice.
