About Shankar

I hold a PhD in Physics and completed post-doctoral research at UCLA in elementary particle physics. My work has involved both advanced research and industry software engineering dealing with complex systems, which required clear analytical thinking and the ability to explain technical ideas to people with different backgrounds. Over the years I have regularly helped students, colleagues, and junior team members understand difficult concepts in math and science in a structured and patient way.

I approach tutoring professionally and prepare for each session based on the student’s level and goals. Lessons are organized, punctual, and focused on steady progress rather than short-term shortcuts. My aim is not only to help with current coursework, but also to build lasting understanding and confidence so students can handle future topics independently.

I am also happy, when useful, to discuss broader academic direction — such as choosing courses, understanding what different STEM fields involve, and how current studies connect to future paths. This is always optional and meant simply to help students make informed decisions with greater confidence.

About the lesson

My teaching is centered on understanding rather than memorization. Many students struggle because math and physics are presented as collections of rules and formulas. I focus instead on showing the structure behind the topic — why a method works, when to use it, and how to recognize similar problems in new settings. When the logic becomes clear, speed and accuracy follow naturally.

A typical lesson begins by identifying where the confusion actually starts, not just where homework became difficult. We review the concept briefly and then work through problems step-by-step together, discussing the reasoning at each stage. I gradually reduce guidance so the student gains independence and confidence. At the end of the session we summarize key ideas and outline what to practice next.

What sets me apart is my background in physics research and complex systems work, which helps me explain ideas at the right level — from simple intuitive explanations for younger students to more formal reasoning for advanced students. The goal is always clarity, not memorization.

Lessons are for elementary through introductory college students in mathematics and physics. I work with students building foundations, preparing for exams, or overcoming long-standing difficulty or anxiety in these subjects.
