About Maher
I am a PhD student in Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, with a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the American University of Beirut.
I have a total of three years teaching students. In particular, I have more than two years of experience teaching university mathematics at Penn State, where I served as the primary instructor for courses such as Calculus, Vector Calculus, and Multivariable Calculus, including topics like multiple integrals and differential equations.
I am also an instructor at American Straight A Academy, where I teach Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics. I have taught AP Calculus AB/BC around ten times, which has given me strong experience helping students prepare for advanced high school math courses and exams.
In addition, I have taught Linear Algebra and Number Theory.
My teaching style is clear, structured, and energetic. I care deeply about helping students understand the ideas behind the methods, not just memorize formulas. My goal is to help each student build confidence, improve problem-solving skills, and feel better prepared for tests, exams, and university-level math.
I am patient and flexible in my teaching. If a student needs a few extra minutes beyond the session to fully understand an idea, I am always happy to give that time. My goal is to make sure each student leaves the session feeling clearer, more confident, and better prepared.

My tutoring approach is based on clear explanations, structured problem-solving, and helping students understand the reasoning behind each step. I do not want students to only memorize formulas; I want them to understand why a method works and when to use it.
In a typical lesson, I first identify the student’s current level and the specific topic they are struggling with. Then I explain the concept in a simple and organized way, using examples that gradually increase in difficulty. After that, we solve problems together, and I guide the student through the thinking process. Finally, I let the student try similar questions independently so I can check their understanding and correct any mistakes.
A typical lesson may include:
1. Quick review of the student’s current topic or homework
2. Explanation of the key concept
3. Step-by-step examples
4. Guided practice
5. Independent practice
6. Summary of mistakes and next steps
