About Jason
I'm currently a postdoc with the College of Pharmacy at the Ohio State University (OSU). I'm also a senior lecturer in the philosophy department at the University of Akron.
Additionally, I'm a regular participant in OSU's weekly ethics case conference and a member of the OSU Ethics Committee.
From 2021-2022, I was a patient advocate at the James Cancer Hospital, and from 2019-2021, I was the clinical bioethics fellow at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
I received my PhD in philosophy from Saint Louis University. I'm also a certified healthcare ethics consultant.
I've presented at numerous conferences, both national and international, and I've published a number of academic articles in prestigious journals.

I'm generally very flexible when it comes to meeting your needs. So, depending on what you're looking for, we could do a deep dive and analyze texts sentence by sentence, or we could simply take a more laid-back approach. I can also explain concepts to you and help you proofread your papers. My goal is to help you learn ethics (especially medical ethics) and/or critical thinking.
Send me a message and we'll figure it out!

I’ve never known someone to be as passionate in philosophy as Professor Chen is. He engages in conversations with deep thought and is always willing to discuss any topic, no matter its sensitivity. It is because of him that I realize philosophy permeates everyday life. He would make an excellent tutor as he is not only knowledgeable & approachable, but also able to be empathetic & humorous, and while teaching you how to think critically.
Being a teacher requires not just subject knowledge, but social skills to provide a safe and welcoming environment that facilitates the transfer of that knowledge. Those skills are especially important when it comes to the subject of Philosophy, where facts aren't simply memorized or calculated and personal beliefs must be challenged in order to find truth.
I know Jason from private Philosophy parties that he hosted in my area. He can be direct in asking unexpected questions and challenging viewpoints, which I found refreshing. He is unique in that he doesn't impose his views on others and instead seems genuinely interested in understanding peoples' thought processes.I met Jason when we were fellow graduate students, and from the start, it was clear that he had a rare gift for engaging deeply with ideas while making them accessible to others. His approach to philosophy is both rigorous and inviting—he encourages open dialogue, asks thought-provoking questions, and listens carefully to his students, creating an environment where learning feels collaborative rather than intimidating.
Jason embodies the best qualities of an educator: patient, clear, and genuinely passionate about his subject. He has the ability to meet students where they are, whether they are complete beginners or advanced learners, and help them grow their understanding through lively discussion and relatable examples.
I recommend Jason without hesitation to other Superprof members. If you are looking for a tutor who combines intellectual depth with approachability, and who will challenge you while supporting your learning every step of the way, Jason is an outstanding choice.Jason's way of interacting and explaining things is truly unique. He takes complex concepts and naturally simplifies them so they are interesting over regular conversation. He does this in an animated, engaging way that leaves you laughing and hanging on every word. He's down-to-earth, excited about philosophy, and genuinely cares about the experience of his students.
I've known Jason for 10 years and can confirm that he is an excellent teacher. Not only has he published excellent papers in good journals that demonstrate his expertise in the field of philosophy, but he is also fully committed to the genuine learning of students. He is patient and caring, and is a terrific at explaining concepts and ideas. I give him my highest recommendation.
