About Rob
Who I Am and Why I Teach Kia ora, my name is Robert, and I’m a friendly, down-to-earth online tutor who genuinely enjoys helping students understand Geography and Philosophy. I’ve spent over 15 years working in forestry, environmental management, and practical fieldwork, and those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for how people learn, think, and make sense of the world around them. I chose to teach because I know what it feels like to struggle with complicated ideas—and I also know how life-changing it can be when someone explains things in a way that finally “clicks.” I’m passionate about supporting students who need clear explanations, patience, and someone who will believe in them while they build confidence. Teaching lets me share the real-world knowledge I’ve gained, while helping young people succeed in school, at university, and in their own personal learning journeys. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a student understand something they once found difficult, or watching them grow more confident from week to week. I aim to be a tutor who is approachable, reliable, and genuinely invested in each student’s progress. Whether you’re catching up, keeping up, or aiming higher, I’m here to support you at your pace, in a way that makes learning feel achievable.

My Approach to Tutoring
I keep my tutoring style friendly, supportive, and easy to follow. My goal is to help students feel confident, understand the material properly, and stay relaxed while learning subjects that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
Techniques and Teaching Methodology
I focus on:
Breaking topics down into simple, easy steps
Using real-life examples from geography, philosophy, and my environmental/forestry background
Checking understanding often so we move at your pace
Encouraging questions—big or small—because that’s how real learning happens
Using diagrams, discussion, and practical examples for Geography
Using conversation, everyday scenarios, and step-by-step reasoning for Philosophy
I adapt every lesson to suit the student’s learning style—visual, verbal, or hands-on.
Typical Length of a Lesson
Most lessons are 60 minutes, but I also offer 45-minute and 90-minute sessions depending on what the student needs.
My Qualifications and Experience
I bring 15 years of real-world experience working in forestry, environmental management, and fieldwork. This allows me to connect geographical ideas and philosophical concepts to practical, real situations that students can understand easily.
I have experience helping learners with schoolwork, assignments, and exam preparation in a clear and supportive way.
