About Pennie

Solving inequalities and rational expressions effectively requires stripping away the clutter of complex notation to see the underlying logic. Most people think math is about memorizing formulas, but I focus on building a robust method that lasts. My 9 years of teaching have taught me that clear conceptual frameworks prevent burnout.

I have worked with a wide range of individuals, from middle schoolers to college students and honors learners. Many of my students are juggling intense professional schedules alongside their coursework.

Because I am a PhD candidate in Mathematics at the University of Michigan, I prioritize clarity over complication. Connecting with students who find algebra difficult is my primary goal. About the lesson

True mathematical understanding feels less like studying and more like solving a puzzle with the right tools. A common mistake is jumping into drills before the fundamental logic of quadratic equations or sequences is fully cemented.

During our time together, we will break down linear equations and word problems into manageable parts that make sense. As someone pursuing a PhD candidate degree in Mathematics at the University of Michigan, I apply high level concepts to middle school and college level topics.

We will emphasize the method so you can handle absolute value functions without relying on rote memorization. Since I provide weekly practice sets with worked solutions, you will always have a roadmap for independent study.

Your session concludes with you explaining the concept back to me, which confirms you own the material. This technique ensures that you are truly prepared for honors coursework or standard algebra exams. You will find that these habits serve you well after the specific topic is finished. We move at a pace that honors your existing knowledge while filling in the gaps.
