About Gauthier
Hi, I'm Gauthier. I was born and raised in France near Paris, where I studied literature for 3 years (Henri IV - Baccalauréat), then fine and applied arts for 5 years (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris - Master), degrees that I got with congratulations. I just moved to Montreal this summer to start a PhD artistic project at UQAM.
My practice blends disciplines together. Studying in a great applied art school enabled me to discover mediums such as drawing and sculpture, but also photography (digital and analog), video, textile, engraving, ceramics etc. I love to switch from one medium to another, working on metamorphosis.
My work consists of installations in wich these disciplines are mixed together to change the perception of the environment. My interest in metamorphosis also takes shape in sculptures and installations that change over time : something appears or vanish, an event occurs so that creation is not only an object but something that happens.

Lessons can be for anyone, from teenagers to adults, without distinction of level as I will adapt to your needs. I have experience with beginners and confirmed students who now integrated art schools in France.
I. Technical classes
We can have technical classes, focusing on drawing for example. We will explore different subjects and different mediums as I'll give you advice and tips.
. Subjects
The subject would depend on your interests : drawing objects, figures, spaces, light ; drawing from life, from an image, or blending the two in an imaginary composition.
. Tools
We may use pen, pencil, color pencil, watercolour and paint, brushes, charcoal etc. We can draw on paper, paint on fabric, or create a mix : draw on fabric, paint on objects... Which leads me to multidisciplinarity.
II. Multidisciplinarity (and creativity !)
If you wish to prepare for an art school application, you may want to prepare a portfolio. You may as well seek to unleash your creativity and make the most of these classes, without focussing on a single medium.
We can imagine a personal journey that will lead you from one medium to another. For example :
1 : creating small sculptures (paper, cardboard, clay...)
2 : creating a setting for these sculptures and take pictures
3 : draw/paint from you photographs
Another example :
1 : draw/paint/print on fabric
2 : cut and sew the fabric to create a clothing
3 : take a picture of you or a friend wearing it
4 : draw a portrait from the photograph (or make a life drawing !)
Multidisciplinarity enables you to explore the creative process without wondering too much about rules and boundaries. It's a quality art schools are looking for in students' applications.
III. Presenting your work
Finally, we can as well work on how to present your work and enhance it : photography and setting, book making, layout, texts and so on.
I hope these lessons would help you free your mind and express yourself. Like most teachers do, I recommend 2h lessons. Less would be short, more wouldn't be necessary (a bit of freedom is good).

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I met Gauthier about a year ago, in France. I had a great time learning with him. I had had previous classes before meeting him, but still needed to improve and diversify my technique. His classes have proved extremely helpful, especially as he always has many references. He is very patient and willing to help. A joy to work with, I do recommend.
