About Fatema
I'm a graduate and I tutor because I enjoy it. I'm not a schoolteacher — what I offer is patience, one-to-one attention, and the ability to explain something several different ways until it clicks. I allow the student to lead the pace, and I'd rather spend a full hour on the one thing they're stuck on than rush through everything.

How I structure my lessons
Every lesson starts with a few questions on last week's topic. Recalling it is what makes it stick, and it tells me quickly what's gone in and what hasn't.
Then I work out where the student is actually stuck. It's usually one specific step from earlier rather than the whole topic.
I take one idea at a time and work through an example out loud, so they can hear how I'm thinking about it. Then we do one together and I get them to explain it back to me. If they can explain it, they've got it. If they're just copying my method, we go back a step.
After that they work on their own while I watch for where they slow down, and we fix mistakes as they come up rather than at the end.
We finish with a bit of homework, which we go through at the start of the next lesson.
The first lesson is more relaxed. I use it to find out what they're working on and where they feel stuck, then plan from there. Every few weeks I go back over older topics instead of doing new ones, so things don't get forgotten by exam season.
