About Helene

My name is Hélène, and I have a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from SFU. I am currently pursuing a second degree in nursing at BCIT. I have always had a strong passion for helping others, which is what motivated me to pursue a career in nursing.

Previously, I worked for four years as an Education Assistant at a local high school, where I discovered how much I enjoy teaching. In this role, I primarily supported students with mental health challenges, helping them strengthen their academic abilities while also building their confidence. I found this work incredibly rewarding, and it was meaningful to watch my students grow both academically and personally. This experience inspired me to continue helping students reach their potential by supporting their learning and fostering confidence in their abilities.

About the lesson

As someone who once struggled with math and science, I understand how frustrating these subjects can feel. This experience has shaped my teaching approach and reinforces the importance of patience, clarity, and encouragement. I begin each lesson by inviting students to demonstrate what they already know, allowing me to assess their understanding and identify specific gaps. From there, I provide targeted support to strengthen foundational concepts, build confidence, and develop problem-solving skills. My goal is not only to improve academic performance, but also to help students feel more capable and comfortable engaging with challenging material.
