About Maria Isabel

In any work I do, I seek to ignite a sense of imagination, connection, resilience and agency in people. Having worked in United States, China and Spain, I've had the opportunity of connecting with hundreds of human beings from many places in the world. My various roles such as language educator, university administrator, and public servant have enriched me with tremendous interpersonal experience.

As a language teacher I can offer tools to help students improve their interpersonal communication skills. Also, being an avid learner, I’m continuously researching ways to improve my methodology and to help students learn better. For example, I use evidence-based neuroscience tools, such as breathing exercises, to help students focus in class.

In addition to my teaching experience and professional exposure to people of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, growing up I was immersed in a cross-national completely bi-lingual environment where I acquired fluency in English and Spanish. Throughout my life, I have enjoyed communicating and adapting to different ways of expressing through the use of both languages. Language acquisition fascinates me and knowing the gifts of being bilingual, I'm dedicated to connecting people through English communication skills.
