About Nyla

I am taking four languages at GCSE including English and I have completed five years of secondary education leading me to work at 8s and 9s in my final year of secondary school.
I have provided students with English lessons for just under a year as well as coaching in Netball for half a year and tutoring in phonics for a three months. I finished KS3 with a distinction - a qualification that includes my excellent academic progress, my exceptional attitude to learning and my commitment to learning beyond the classroom.
Some of my most celebrated skills include my practicality, friendliness, leadership, easygoing personality and fantastic level of organisation.
In the past 2 years, I have received an invitation to participate in the Oxford Computing Challenge after achieving a top 10% score for my age group, I have also completed my Grade 5 ABRSM singing and theory exams with distinctions and I became my school’s young musician of the year for performance and participation in category B (Grades 4 - 6).

About the lesson

Hello! My name is Nyla and I have lived in London my entire life.

I am a native English speaker with 9s in English Language and Literature at GCSE level: two subjects that I took exams in out of 11 in total.

With my help, students have greatly improved their vocabulary, reading, grammar, speaking, listening, writing, comprehension and above all, their self-belief.

Through my lessons, you can build upon your knowledge of British culture, lifestyle, food, politics and music - all from the perspective of the future generation. I provide all of my students with a fresh and unique experience of learning: all lessons are catered directly to each student’s ability, motivation and level of prior knowledge.

I guarantee that with my support you will reach your language learning goals and deepen your understanding of the country!

To establish what you already do and do not know, I always set three tests of varying difficulty for my students and create a vague lesson plan consisting of 5 lessons and general ideas for the lesson’s layout. I also set homework after every three lessons - this might be a youtube video on the subject, an interesting article that covers lesson content or a topic-relevant podcast episode. I regularly give detailed feedback on where to improve as well as areas of high attainment because I have found that this allows students to consolidate their knowledge and reflect on their progress. At the end of each topic, I encourage students to revise for my quizzes that I create on Quizlet.

I like to conduct lessons in English. however, I do speak small amounts of Spanish and German which I wouldn’t mind using to explain more difficult concepts.

Instead of basing learning solely on the use of books, I prefer to converse with my students in English - this helps to build confidence as well as important speaking and listening skills.
