About Odhran

Hello!

My name is Odhran (pronounced ‘Oran’, he/him), and I'm extremely excited to introduce myself as a fresh tutor for Scotland’s drama qualifications, up to National 5.

My drama education was a key part of my educational and personal development and wellbeing, and through the subject I found that the right mentor was a really big part of that process. Graduating into working in the industry, I have become immeasurably more passionate about championing young people into drama and theatre, it's exhilarating to witness young people grow in confidence, express themselves creatively, and develop critical thinking skills through drama. Both the practical and written elements of the National 5 Drama course excite me, as they allow students to express creatively through different mediums. I believe I am in a brilliant position to guide students through the National 5 drama course, with recent enough experience of the SQA qualifications system to have a deep understanding of standards and marking principles, coupled with a wide range of post-educational experience working in the field of Drama allowing me to bring in up-to-date ideas and creative practices.

About the lesson

Here’s what I do, and why I’d love to have you involved:

1. I'm in the know: I finished my high school education during COVID with an A1 in Advanced Higher Drama, Music and Modern Studies – so I’m well acquainted with the standards that students need to meet for their SQA qualifications. As a practitioner working in the industry in Scotland today, I stay up-to-date with the latest creative practices, so you'll be getting the most relevant guidance.

2. I’m all about inclusivity: I am all about creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. I’m a queer individual, and I work with access needs on a day-to-day basis, so I’m open to any access accommodations that you feel would benefit you.

3. I'm well-connected: I’m currently in contact with some of the most influential creative engagement projects in Scotland, currently working on the co-creation group for the programme ‘Class Act’ at the Traverse Theatre, which sends creatives into high schools to meet and work with the next generation of Scotland’s theatre makers. Most recently, I’ve been featured in Edinburgh’s Page to Stage new writing and development project, bringing playwrights with directors, actors and a panel of industry professionals to develop new scripts through experimentation and feedback.

4. I'm an all-rounder: Teaching is just the tip of the iceberg for me. I'm also a commissioned playwright with Vanishing Point and an actor featured in multiple productions. With my real-world experience, I'll help you bring the course to life and absolutely smash your National 5 drama qualification!

You can choose between in-person sessions in Edinburgh or virtual tutoring. It's all about what works best for you and your schedule. Flexibility is key!

I’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in an initial session, or a shorter introductory chat. I offer sessions that are an hour, an hour and a half or two hours, depending on your needs and preferences.
