About Caitlin

I have worked as a middle school mathematics special educator with students who have intellectual disability, autism, ADHD and emotional disability. I have also taught 7th grade, 8th grade and 12th grade math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus) in the classroom. I have virtually tutored students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus. All of my tutoring clients have raised their grade to an A or B after working with me.

I am equally comfortable working with students who are struggling to access grade level material and students who are taking advanced courses. I tailor my approach to accommodate learning styles- some students need a lot of guidance and examples, while others just need to be pushed to have confidence in their own ability to tackle a problem. In any scenario I am a warm and accommodating teacher and pride myself on fostering a learning environment where students feel comfortable learning from their mistakes and thinking of themselves as a mathematician.

About the lesson

Using online tools such as Desmos, DeltaMath and Jamboard, I work with students for 60-90 minutes to help them discover the best strategy for approaching a skill or problem by breaking it down into pieces and guiding them to build on what they already know. My ultimate goal is for my students to eventually not need a tutor because they have developed the critical thinking and problem solving skills to confidently self-direct their own learning, but I'm always there if they need a little hint : )

Best fit clients would include middle and high school students who:
-are struggling to keep up with homework that builds on what they've learned in class
-need help preparing for or correcting tests and quizzes
-need practice with foundational skills to help them access grade level material in class
-need a more hands-on and tailored approach to learning lessons than what their current teacher is offering

I am flexible with meeting students- we can set a weekly recurring tutoring session, or we can adjust frequency and days as need arises. I am also available for quick offline help, so if my student is struggling with a single problem, they can text me a picture and I'll send them back a little guidance.
