About Diane
I have taught in the classrooms of St. Cloud, Minnesota since 2001 both at the elementary and secondary levels, and have worked with students at a variety of WIDA levels from new-comer (non-English speaking) at level 1, to high intermediate (levels 2-5). I taught academic instruction for language learners in mathematics, language arts, science, social studies & history as well as geography. I have worked with students in both large and small groups as well as provided individual instruction and tutoring. I have specific training from the University of Minnesota on providing students with literacy interventions and teaching explicit reading skills such as decoding and comprehension strategies. I ensure that all learning materials are appropriate for my learning audience.

Language learning requires the engagement of both encoding skills (speaking, writing) and decoding skills (listening, reading). I enable learning experiences that practice each of these skills in ways that are student-led and motivating because they are authentic, meaningful, interactive, and fun. Lessons often include visuals such as pictures or diagrams, using graphic organizers such as mind maps or Venn diagrams which aid comprehension, a brief video for demonstrations and examples, and games for practicing new knowledge and skills. "Mistakes" are welcome and encouraged because they are part of the learning process. I provide a safe, caring learning environment that is warm, friendly, and fun. I am licensed to teach Elementary K-6 and ESL K-12 but am also willing to work with adult learners. I am a lover of learning and helping others.
