About Joshua
Hi I'm Joshua. I have 20 years experience in teaching individual & group classes. I have taught students from ages 4 - 72. I also do love listening to many genres & styles including jazz, pop, funk, blues, country, R&B, classical, rock, gospel, etc., which means that we can work towards almost any musical style you might like to play. Right now my favourite listening is Vulfpeck
I can support those who want to sit for exams up to Grade 8 (ABRSM/Trinity& Rockschool) & those who are learning to play as a hobby/jamming or for performing/shows/gigs.
I perform occasionally for private events (weddings,parties,etc) and am currently serving as a church pianist

Some of my most memorable teaching experiences include:
- Creating a group cajon/stomp class for public highschoolers
- Conducting online classes for seniors and retirees. my oldest student to date is 72!
- Creating a virtual ensemble course for an online group class
- Organizing yearly recitals for my private instrumental students.
- Organizing semi-professional recording sessions for private students
- Writing musical arrangements for my students
My approach to guitar lessons:
In my lessons, we will visit all genres of music including rock, blues, jazz, funk, classical, dance, country, & pop as there is musical insight in every genre.
We will cover chordal theory, strumming, plucking, and scales & modes. We can interchange between acoustic and electric guitar if you like.
I will introduce a wide variety of music listening and we will discuss critically. Audiation is a huge part of my approach.
