About Emilia
Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Emilia, and I am a native English teacher from Canada. I specialize in exam preparation (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo) as well as general English lessons. I work with adults, teenagers, and children, and I adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs and goals.
I am originally from Vancouver, Canada, but I have lived and worked in several countries around the world. I spent a few years living in Latin America and currently live in Europe. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to teach students from many different countries, including France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, Greece, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, among others.
I have always been passionate about languages and excelled in English and foreign language classes throughout school. I began tutoring some of my classmates during high school and quickly discovered a true passion for teaching. During my final year of high school, I volunteered as a peer tutor for one semester, and after graduating, I decided to continue teaching. I then took a gap year and spent that time teaching English in Brazil.
When I returned to Canada, I began studying Psychology while continuing to pursue teaching-related qualifications. I also completed a Language and Culture teaching diploma program in Mexico, where I had the opportunity to teach English to university students at UNAM.
Over the years, I have taught in language schools in Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and France. I have also worked as a ghostwriter and collaborated with different companies to create educational materials and mock exams.
Today, I teach English full-time, both independently and in collaboration with several schools. Most of my classes are one-to-one lessons, although I also occasionally teach couples and small groups. The majority of my students want to improve their English in order to study abroad or feel more comfortable in professional environments. I also work with students who want to communicate more confidently in their personal relationships, improve their grades at school, or simply learn English because they enjoy the language.
In my free time, I enjoy learning new languages — I am currently focusing on Greek — trying new recipes, and participating in volunteer projects. I also love spending time at the beach whenever I have the opportunity.
My long-term goal is to open my own language school and help even more people develop a passion for language learning. I hope to build a meaningful career that allows me to continue growing as a person while making a positive impact on the lives of others.

The advantage of private lessons is that they allow you to learn exactly what you want, in the way that works best for you. Every student is different, and no two classes are the same. During our first session, I will assess your level, learning style, interests, and objectives in order to create a personalized learning plan tailored to your needs. The structure of the lessons will depend on the type of course you are looking for and the skills you would like to develop.
GENERAL ENGLISH / CONVERSATION
We will work on the four main language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with a strong emphasis on communication. Grammar and vocabulary will be reviewed whenever necessary.
General English lessons usually begin with a short conversation to help you feel comfortable, followed by a review of the homework assigned during the previous session. I will explain any grammar or vocabulary points that may be confusing before moving on to the topic of the day.
Most classroom activities are completed orally in order to give students as many opportunities as possible to practice speaking English in real-life situations. Homework is assigned at the end of each class unless the student prefers not to have any. Homework usually includes a short writing task and a grammar exercise to help reinforce what was learned during the lesson.
LESSONS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS
Lessons for younger learners follow a similar structure to my general English classes, but with a more interactive and gamified approach. New grammar and vocabulary topics are introduced through games, videos, and other fun activities.
The main objective is to help students build confidence and develop an interest in learning English. Lessons can also be adapted to help students prepare for school exams or review topics they may not have fully understood in class. Homework is assigned after each lesson unless otherwise requested by parents.
EXAM PREPARATION (TOEFL, IELTS, DUOLINGO, CAMBRIDGE, TOEIC)
Exam preparation courses are structured differently because students usually work with a specific deadline and must follow the requirements of each certification exam.
I create a personalized study plan according to the student’s current level and scheduled exam date. The number of hours required varies from one student to another, but most students usually complete between 10 and 20 hours of preparation lessons. This gives us enough time to review all sections of the exam, develop effective strategies, and practice with exercises and mock exams.
If your exam date is approaching quickly, it is also possible to take an intensive 3–5 hour crash course or a few targeted sessions focused on your main difficulties and weaknesses.
If you have not yet scheduled your exam but are planning to take it within the next several months, it is possible to combine general English lessons with gradual exam preparation. This approach allows you to continue improving your overall English level while becoming more familiar with the exam format.
ENGLISH FOR TRAVEL, WORK, RELATIONSHIPS, OR LEISURE
These lessons are similar to my general English classes, but the topics and activities will be more closely tailored to your personal goals, interests, and lifestyle.

Perfect! I decided to put 5 stars because Emilia is a great teacher for her age. She ask some questions about you to help you speak, so you have the opportunity to improve your speaking. I like also because in first, you talk always about your week and you tell her your story ; she is enjoying this moment to correct you on your sentences. With the time, I am seeing that I am doing less some mistakes. Emilia is a really great teacher. I was fortunate enough to work with her in Salta, Argentina, where we teach advanced English classes to adults. Emilia was always prepared and organized and her students loved her positive attitude and energy every day. I prepared with Emilia for my Toefl!! It was very fun. She gave me lots of exercises and homework. We had a lot of repetition and I thought it was boring, but it really helped me understand the structure for my speaking responses and writing tasks. She gave me homework every class and then we corrected it together so I could see my mistakes. I really appreciate Emilias help since I was able to achieve 108 on my exam!! My requirement was 90, so I am very happy!! Thanks !
