About John

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been working as a professional actor for 6 years. I have experience working within the West-End, television, film and straight theatre. My recent credits include; Outlander (Amazon Prime), Abigail's Party (Theatre Royal Bath) Tom (No1 UK Tour), The Commitments (Palace Theatre, West-End, London), We Will Rock You (Dominion Theatre, West-End, London).

I have also acted as an Assistant Director for The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's annual Edinburgh Fringe season and as Resident Director for the Number 1 UK tour of Tom - A Story of Tom Jones

I have worked as a freelance acting and singing tutor for The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Spotlight Open Days and Make Believe Stage Schools.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I am currently about to renew my DBS Certificate.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I trained at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, which was recently ranked 3rd in the world for performance arts studies. I graduated in 2011 with a Masters Degree with distinction in Musical Theatre.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am a freelance tutor for The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and also belong to the trade union organisation Equity.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I currently teach at a stage school in Canada Water, South London. I teach drama and singing to children aged from 5-16.

About the lesson

My name is John McLarnon, I am a professional Actor originally from Glasgow, now based in North London.

I tutor both acting and singing. I also offer drama school and professional audition preparation sessions either in person or online.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach acting, drama, singing and acting through song. I have experience with modern and classical text.

I can tutor and prepare students for all aspects of drama school auditions. I can recommend suitable material and work in detail to ensure that students auditioning feel confident and at ease.

I have vast experience as a professional vocalist and can teach a range of different singing techniques in a number of different genres. I offer monologue training and professional audition assistance for musicals, screen or theatre auditions.

I also offer acting for camera tuition, supplying professional quality tapes to allow students to review and improve on their technique.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Masters Degree (With Distinction) from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

I also have a first class honours degree in Commercial Music from The University of The West of Scotland.

- How much do you charge?

I charge a flat rate of £30 an hour.

If booking in blocks of 5 a discount applies.

- Where do you teach?

I teach from my home in Crouch End, North London. I have a room at the top of my house which I use exclusively for teaching and recording music. The nearest station to my home is Hornsey (4 min walk) which is a Great Northern Train station, easily accessible from Finsbury Park or Highbury and Islington.

I am willing to travel to a student's home depending on distance, however my home is specifically catered for teaching.

- When are you available?

I am extremely flexible as I work from home, I am available all week day or evening and Saturday afternoons.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages.

I can teach at all levels of the English School Curriculum and at University or Professional level.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

If you would like online tutoring, I have the facilities to teach over Skype, Facetime or Facebook Video Chat.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

As a professional working actor, I offer quality relevant tuition in the arts. I have been through what you are about to embark upon and understand the pressure involved. I therefore offer tuition which not only improves your technical ability but also puts you in the right frame of mind to perform confidently in nerve racking situations.

I still actively work as a professional actor and absolutely love what I do, therefore as a tutor I try to encourage you to find the enjoyment in performing with the hope that we can work together as professionals in the future.
