About James

Hi, I am Jimmy L. For 31 years now, I have been teaching drum lessons, which is the focus of my life. I began taking drum lessons at age 12 and have been actively playing, teaching and learning ever since. I am a student-centered teacher, truly connecting with each person at their level. My teaching experience ensures that you will be provided with the right focus, insight, and attention, making every learning stage more valuable and meaningful.
Sharing my love of drumming and music comes instinctively to me. Child or adult, I always keep the student engaged, inspired and constantly learning. I use a balanced combination of methodology and creative freedoms to ensure transfer of both fun and the fundamentals. This is what builds a love of playing drums, which is my foremost goal with any aspiring player.
Whether you want to begin your drumming journey or prepare for a college audition, I will earn your trust and deliver the results needed to accomplish your drumming goals. That’s my promise to you in advance. I always look forward to getting to know people who want to learn! I’m easy to reach and always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

About the lesson

Your drumming goals are my aim. I will exceed your expectations as a teacher and mentor. Each step will be simple and rewarding. There is truly nothing like the feeling you get by tackling those simple steps. Result: Discover yourself rising as a skilled, musical drummer.

I found Jimmy Lane on Face Book. I was looking for a drum Tescher that would lead me into Drum Theory and formal instruction. Jimmy Loves to teach drumming. Our agreed upon time had ended and scheduling conflicts has kept us coming back for now. I will be back in the future.
Jimmy has 5 rules for drumming! 1. We are Timekeepers. 2. Know where the one in the measure is. 3. We are peacekeepers. 4. Love every note more that we think we should. 4. Know what part of the song you are in.
To me Jimmy is a lifelong drum Pal. Make sure you ask about the forever lesson!

We know Jimmy as an in-person drum teacher who comes to our home, but we have seen that he knows how to adapt his teaching to an online / video format when needed.
He is extremely patient while also demanding focus and precision when he can tell the student is capable of giving more; and he is also very skilled at recognizing when to push harder and when to adapt to the student’s learning speed.
While he is able to demonstrate every practice-pad rudiment and drum-set pattern himself (he’s a player as well), he does not fall into the trap of only showing how to do it. He identifies when the student needs to comprehend (and is capable of comprehending) notation and subdivision, and knows how to help the student use counting and verbal representation to grasp it.
I would recommend Jimmy for drum students of a variety of ages and skill levels.

I met Jimmy years ago after searching for a drumming teacher in Westport. He immediately put me at ease, kept it simple, and even encouraged me to challenge myself and go for a Bonham solo. ️
Rock on, Jimmy,
