About James

I have recently graduated The University of Plymouth, with five years of playing and performing guitar under my belt.
Discovering the guitar has been a massive part of my life, as it has opened up a new, powerful outlet of expression, and is a skill that has boosted both my confidence and resilience. I am extremely passionate about guiding others along their path with this beautiful instrument.
A bit about me; I am a friendly, laid-back guy, usually found noodling on a guitar or on the basketball court, with a warm, sociable demeanour.

About the lesson

My promise to students is to help you find your spark of passion that will drive you to keep practising the guitar for years to come. My teaching style blends focus with a relaxed atmosphere, placing emphasis on the importance of keeping the learning process enjoyable! Aiming to inspire passion within my students, lessons follow a free-flowing structure that we mould to best suit your needs. I actively seek feedback from students to tailor the sessions to their interests. While Rock/blues guitar is my speciality, I am able to teach a range of different styles on both electric or acoustic guitar. My lessons are perfect for anyone wishing to give the guitar a go, or hone their pre-existing skills, and I will accept students of any age.

Perfect! Really thrilled to have found James as a guitar teacher- he has a lovely approach, but is also very skilled in identifying errors and bad habits (I’ve got many)- but in the nicest possible way. Always very positive and knows exactly how to encourage and develop progress- a great teacher. James is a highly skilled musician who can quickly work out songs I’d like to learn better, even if he’s unfamiliar with them, making it possible for us to play together- exactly what I wanted. After just a couple of lessons I feel I made progress and gained in confidence- plus I really look forward to the sessions. Many thanks James!

James gave my son science tuition for his GCSEs. It wasn’t my son’s strong point being more arts focussed & has a slight processing problem. He was on a 3b & I’d learnt from my oldest son not to just assume the school would get him to a pass. James made the subject interesting & my son enjoyed the lessons. He was patient & explained the concepts clearly. My son moved from grade 3 (D) & not just passed, but achieved grades 5 & 5 which is 2 GCSEs both at C/B. I highly recommend James as a tutor!

James helped our daughter with her science before her exams & we found him to be very good. He has a very calming, trusting nature about him & he soon found out what it was she was struggling with. She actually enjoyed her studies with him & passed her exam too! Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending James.
