About Philip
When I was 9 years old, I stumbled upon a video of Eddie Van Halen playing eruption in 1994. To me, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen, so much to my parents' dismay, I was adamant that I wanted to quit piano and learn guitar. 20 years later and I'm thrilled with my decision that day. You could spend every waking hour for the rest of your life studying the guitar and you still won't uncover all of its secrets, but we can try, right? And that's the beauty of it!

I’ve been playing guitar for around 20 years, with a background in piano before that, and I love helping people get better at guitar in a way that’s fun and practical. I deliver client-centred lessons using a background of rock, blues, jazz, metal, and great-sounding clean electric guitar, but I’m always happy to explore different styles depending on what you’re into, acoustic or electric! I also run a website for guitarists with courses, resources, blog posts and lessons, so I’m big on clear explanations, useful practice ideas, and helping players make real progress — not just run through exercises. Whether you’re just starting out or feel a bit stuck, I’ll help you sound better and enjoy playing to the max!
